- Temperature rarely drops below 25 to 26 degrees during the day in our “winter months” so please dress accordingly. Windy weather from about May to Nov, trade winds blow up to 35-40 knots so hats blow off, but are really needed to protect from the sun and heat. Wet season December - March, fantastic rain, don’t worry about getting wet, you will dry off pretty quickly in the hot weather.
- Baggage: Travelling to Thursday Island necessitates travel on Bus, Boat, Bus, don’t pack suitcases that are so heavy that you can’t carry them. Our staff will assist with baggage where possible. Workplace Health and Safety limits are 20KG. Several smaller bags are better than one very heavy bag. (Please check with your airline for weight and piece limits)
- Footwear: Footwear should be comfortable and remember you will need to negotiate vessel gangways.

- Travelling on our service from Horn Island Airport to Thursday Island takes about 20-30 minutes. We have the fastest vessels in the area taking about 5 minutes to cross the harbour. But by the time you get your luggage off the airport baggage trolley at Horn Island Airport, board the bus to the Horn Island wharf and arrive at TI, it takes 20-30 minutes
- If you want fast, safe travel make sure you get on the right bus at the airport. Rebel Torres Strait Tours vehicles are clearly marked with these logos.
- A small map of TI is available on the vessel.
- Make sure your bags are on the Airport Bus, hand them to the driver.
- Make sure your bags are on the boat.
- Make sure your bags are on the Thursday Island bus you are travelling on.
- If you have to check out of accommodation before your departure time, you can store your luggage at Rebel/Torres Strait Tours office.
- Email: Torres Shire Council has three PC’s which can be used to access emails, for a small fee OR the Ilan Café at the Gab Titui Cultural Centre is a free wireless internet (WiFi) hotspot, accessible to those with a laptop. Bring a camera if you are that way inclined, fantastic scenery to photograph.
